Yang is one of the, well, one, people associated with the Democratic Party who are interesting.

Sergeant Castle's avatar

Except Yang ISNT associated with the Democratic party anymore and there are cold hard reasons for that.

I want to say Yang left the Democrats, but its more accurate to say the Democrats left us.

I’m a Republican and I like Yang. Come on over to our side Andrew. 🇺🇸

I'm a lifetime independent, but I agree wholly. Some of the smartest, most interesting and creative people have migrated to MAGA vision, policies, messaging, which of course currently is housed by the R party. It's really where the cool kids today are, freedom loving and practical. I see Andrew Yang as fitting right in.

Tim Amyx's avatar

agreed... the Republicans have far too long been terrible in messaging their "common sense, facts based, perspective, logical" way of thinking, to the feelings based Democrats. Being Conservative should be cool, but youth by nature is out to "change the world" and that is a tough message to counter with facts/history/logic.

Yang will be good support person to help a ticket but I don't feel hisheart is in it to run hard and lead

polistra's avatar

Despite my better judgment I just have to LIKE Yang. His pet ideas, rank-choice voting and UBI, strike me as silly, but they're not evil. He's one of the few non-evil politicians.

PapayaSF's avatar

UBI is another bad idea, but Yang is right to see Trump as an insult comic who self-consciously inflates his language and image as a champion. Still, it not only works, it’s going to have great results. That attitude will enable Trump to fix huge “unsolvable” problems like election fraud and welfare fraud. The current DNC leadership is a pitiful mix of fossilized failures and young DEI/socialist fools. Good luck to that bunch stopping the freight train of federal cases headed their way. 2026 will be quite a ride.

WI Patriot's avatar

'Free Stuff' sounds great until you wake up one day and learn 'There's NO free lunch' If Yang wants to build a coalition and start a 'New' party it must be done in secret, like when the Republican Party was born in Ripon WI. Democrats, Whigs, Free Soilers, and abolitionist met at the 'Little White School House' and together took down the slave state insurrectionist. 45% now identify as Independent and the younger cohort is around 60%, according to Gallup. There is a lane forming but the 'parties' will work together to destroy any competition, just like they did with the Tea Party and No Labels short lived run. The America First coalition has a head start and JD looks like the future and it could use some real competition, unlike the current mess at the DNC.

PapayaSF's avatar

Yang and other disaffected Democrats should join MAGA the way RFK Jr. did. He set aside his views on guns and climate for MAHA, which is perfectly compatible with MAGA. Find the part of your agenda that fits and join us.

WI Patriot's avatar

Or Yang could take over inside the D Machine with help of liked minded people, like DJT did within the R Machine. America First is strong in DC but the states are still run by RINOs.I think DJT learned from Ross Perot's failed attempt to fight the Machine's from the outside. Winning 20% of the vote in 1992 was the first sign of unrest with the proles. If Ross would have had a running-mate from the establishment to give the campaign more legit optics, he might of pulled off the upset and ironically might of led to DJT staying in NYC. Ross would have contained the border of people and limit 'cheaters' products. I voted for Ross as my first protest vote.

PapayaSF's avatar

That’s a big ask, though, because the left has already taken over the Democratic Party and won’t let go, even as they fall to 20-25% popularity on major issues. I see no easy way for Democrats to resolve this. They can’t win nationally with their activist base, but they can’t abandon them, either.

WI Patriot's avatar

It reminds me of the fall of SEARS to Walmart, and now Amazon's rise. The leadership says 'just one more quarter (election)' and will turn things around. As their stock price/polling slides into the abyss and are in denial. People could buy them out in bankruptcy, soon. People are voting with their feet and Red States are taking in the Blue State refugees and the electorate are hoping they leave their voting habits behind.

I was YangGang 2020 when he got shit on by the Democrats. I think the big reason he got Trump Derangement syndrome was because Trump referred to covid as the China virus and I think Yang felt that he and his family were physically unsafe.

Tim Amyx's avatar

A couple old truisms seem to win out, over Yangs noble idea of $1,000 per family. 1) there's no such thing as a free lunch, or 2) You get what you pay for

Gene Frenkle's avatar

The Trump Accounts are UBI. Trump firehosed dollars into the economy in 2020 as a Hail Mary to turbocharge the economy and instead massive fraud ensued. That $250 billion in fraud led to the violent crime wave and fentanyl crisis. You voted for a president that added $8 trillion to the debt!! 😝

Sergeant Castle's avatar

Yang actually won me over with UBI as a replacement for all the myriad different kinds of safety nets we have now.

PapayaSF's avatar

That was the argument that even Milton Friedman made. It seems to make logical sense, but I fear the implementation would be flawed: e.g. it wouldn’t really replace anything. I also worry that it would just de-incentivize work and be a hammock for the lazy.

Jim Shilander's avatar

Andrew Yang has to be the most low IQ candidate possible if he believed CNN would want him as an Independent contributor. Imagine Andrew thought CNN considered it important if they appeared neutral to their viewers.

Forwardparty.com. The DNC is dismissive, and out of touch. Two parties work against us.

Forward Nebraska's avatar

He isn’t MAGA. Open primaries take away the right of a party to choose their own representative. Vote by phone? How does that work with citizenship verification and voter ID? These are not the ideas of a deep thinker.

billie's avatar

I work in identity verification. In the near future, physical ID cards (passports, drivers license and the like) will be replaced by digital versions that live on wallets on our phone. California has already adopted a digital drivers licence, and these wallets are picking up in other places in the world that have even stricter requirements regarding identity verification, like in Europe. (Look up how ID verification works for a qualified electronic signature if you’re curious). Vote by phone will probably include validation of a digital ID. I think he’s in touch with technological developments that are happening currently. They’re probably a ways out in the US sadly, but it will happen some day.

Cindy's avatar

Ok thank you for this clarification .. as long as there is validation of an ID, which to my mind is way better than mail in ballots

I am old school, in my state, mail in ballots are only allowed for elderly, disabled etc. We show up at the polling place and show our ID. Voting is a privilege that has been earned for us by those who came before us. So I like the idea of this, physically showing up. But I understand probably the way of the future is the digital ID

Forward Nebraska's avatar

Thanks for that insight. I think there are more voters who don’t have a phone than there are voters who don’t have a physical ID, and we can’t have voter ID nationwide because of the less than one percent of voters who would have to go get one according to the Democrats. Going to get a Real ID is a lot less complicated than going to get a cell phone. Things are changing quickly though.

Tim Amyx's avatar

The Demos don't want Voter ID, so their concerns for fraud are minimal.... Unless they think it's the Republicans who are cheating.

MarkS's avatar

What is Yang's position on the Equality Act, which would make gender self-ID instaneous and unquestionable nationwide?

Every Democrat in Congress is a co-sponsor.

Socrates999's avatar

Democrats don't understand men and don't like men. Essentially Democrats are a middle class party of women and self hating men that is losing even non-white working class men. The party of DEI, which is essentially racism and sexism against white men. The party that thinks it's okay for men to go into women's bathrooms and that children should be eligible for mutilation. Middle class Democrats sit in their comfortable houses, solace their white guilt with expensive wines, and tell people working at Walmart that they're privileged

I was a big Yang supporter before he got Trump Derangement Syndrome. I still have positive feelings about him when he talks about a broader view of society but I no longer find him credible when talking about Democrats and Republicans.

Patrick M McCarthy's avatar

Sorry, Yang’s ideas were rediculouse. Full stop express train to bankrupsy. He litteraly wanted to empty the treasury into 300million wallets a drip at a time. He is as rediculous as trump is criminal.

I went to the Forward party website, made an account, and then continued reading this and saw "universal basic income".

WTF?

That's literally communism. Worse than socialism.

I liked what I saw on the forward website and I'm going to keep my account but any reasonable person could understand that "universal basic income" is just not a feasible policy.

I'm not giving up on researching the Forward party, but I really hope this UBI doesn't become a real thing.

However, we are witnessing the rise of socialism and the despise of capitalism in the US (understandable).

Unfortunately though, people refuse to believe that socialism (to a certain extent) doesn't work because they think we'll end up like Norway and not like Cuba or Venezuela.

The higher ups are witnessing the population get dumber and more illiterate over time, and don't do much about it, since this ends up working for them.

Now with a more illiterate population (no matter the generation), all they have to do is win the culture war and get enough people on their side.

The problem with the "culture war" though, is that it's perpetual, more like a pendulum swinging back and forth about every 4 years when the side that won went too far.

People felt "woke" got too out of hand in 2020, so over the next 4 years, right wing media made a push to emphasize this and subtly get people to want to vote for trump.

Now, however, MAGA has become its own version of woke (except worse) and people are getting fed up. With the ICE stuff going on, the GOP might be losing a lot of supporters.

I hope to God that the population becomes independent politically and people start to choose intellectualism.

But I don't know the likelihood of that simply because social media algorithms continue to polarize people, and AI is getting better and better, truly growing the problem of fake news. People also don't have great critical thinking skills, so they'll say they're pro Palestine/muslim/etc. but also pro women's rights. They should go to those muslim countries where women are actually oppressed.

Islam and women's rights aren't compatible.

That's just one example.

Or they'll shout in the streets about ICE (very valid) but not seem to realize that some of the immigrants who are here illegally are very dangerous and need to be taken out due to the war on drugs, trafficking, etc. I'm not saying I want families to be separated, but what about when the dad is in the cartel? Yeah the kid is in elementary school and it's not his fault his dad's a criminal, but his dad is still a criminal who needs to be detained. Not a fan of how a lot of people are getting unfairly detained or killed, though, and worse when it's because of their appearance (and they're in reality citizens).

I have a feeling we're going to swing back to the left a LOT faster than it took for us to swing to the right recently.

This swing to the right was a bit extreme (I might be wrong; im not really basing this on any statistics other than what I've seen on the news and social media, or on observations of your day to day person).

Well. The swing to the right was slightly extreme. Some are calling it white nationalism or fascism. I don't know what to call it. The truth is we've been in a surveillance and censorship state for a while now and it's only going to get worse no matter the party.

This time, the swing to the left is going to be more extreme than 2020-24, and I think it's heading towards socialism, tax evasion (which would make socialism pretty hard), ignoring student debt, and possibly a little bit of mob rule/tyranny in there too. But that's a little far.

Whether we are living in a dystopic late stage capitalist society or a dystopic late stage socialist society (comes much sooner than the capitalist one), we will be living in the age of information, in which those in power collect our data and use it to manipulate, influence, coerce, and even harm us. Keep us alive but not dead.

2016-2020 was a response to 2010s cringe, 2020-24 was a response to the shocking craziness never before witnessed with a US president (1st Trump Administration), 2024-2028 is a response to the shocking craziness emerging and going into society and being enabled by the Biden administration (transgenderism (especially for minors), innapropriate LGBTQ stuff being pushed in children's media, and more serious things like Biden pulling the military out and the Taliban swooping right back in). Basically right now right wings think they have won the culture war, but they've actually just woken the sleeping giant that is "woke people who don't like it when government officials kill citizens on the streets" (2020: Floyd, 2026: Renee Good, Alex Pretti). Oh and they're pretty mad about the Epstein files, Elon Musk, Amazon, pollution; in general every single problem caused by billionaires. They're really starting to say "eat the rich" and even though I think we are in a bit of hellish late stage capitalism with unregulated monopolies and billionaires who get through tax loopholes, socialism is not the answer.

So we're probably going to see a swing towards socialism.

I wonder if conservatives/republicans or just any person with common sense will speak up and tell the truth about socialism before it's too late.

Also, they're not talking about Palantir enough.

Palantir is genuinely so scary and sometimes I wonder if it's not being talked about and my friends don't know about it simply because they haven't let it go viral.

You would think that something like palantir would spread like wildfire on the internet, but instead, we have ICE spreading on the internet.

They say ICE is a distraction from the Epstein files, but they don't realize the government has been setting up an AI surveillance system for years. That's the real issue. So we can guess who was in the Epstein files. Ok so Trump and Clinton are in them. I don't doubt they did bad things, but I'm more worried about what (Trump especially) might enable in the future than what he did with Epstein.

Anyways: key takeaway: it might be time to go off grid and offline before Palantir gets its grip on us. Who knows if palantir is already scraping substack, sees this comment of mine, and puts me on some kind of list? "Doesn't like palantir" or "Doesn't like culture war".

Hubris of the defeated. Yang didn't matter enough and wonders why. He wants to succeed because his father is brilliant, and his mother is very bright, and his brother is as well. Yang will have to rake in tens of millions from Chinese donors to gain any traction for 2028 campaign.

There is no reinventing DEMs. Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton are directing the national platform and won't allow anyone who doesn't cowtow to them to be relevant, so without Smartmatic software the DEMs can't win.

If Trump would release the unredacted Epstein files--which he won't--Bill Clinton would drag Hillary down with him for her not intervening on behalf of the young women. That would only leave Barack and Michelle Obama's "rainbow insurrectionists", which is anyone that is not a Christian male of European descent. That coalition is not going to win the 2028 election because Vance is running and will easily get 54% - 55% of the popular vote, as well as a landslide electoral college victory.
